20 yrs old Loss of sex drive, Is this normal? I am 20 years old and have had a sudden loss of sex drive. Facts: -a couples months earlier all i could think about was girls and sex -never had a girlfriend, no problems being social/talking to girls, just cant get the guts to ask out a girl, shy in that sense and that i think gets me stressed out -not really a social scene at my college, have boring nights -I take Prozac (probably a main issue) I just feel that there is something wrong. I mean i have always liked girls and, not to seem shallow, have just thought of sex when i see any girl. Now it seems like i dont see them in the same mind set. I cant get an erection when i see a girl, and dont even feel the lust anymore. Has anyone had any similar experiences? What could be up?

little_Mouse replied: "It could be stress or your hormones from teenage hood have balanced out for adulthood."

Hello Kitty replied: "Maybe it's because you don't get any, that your body just got tired of wanting something it can't have."

babygirlpinkie28 replied: "Dude, just go get yourself laid, trust me once you do your sex drive will come back, it always does!"

whitewolf replied: "No, it's not normal, have you started taking any anti-depressants or other meds? Even a cold could lesson it."

Angel A replied: "it is normal.. one does not have to feel.. H...ny all the time.. u are young and you will have floods of it don'yt worry or panic it is normal if u try to force your self to be or feel sexy it will not work.. on women yes men no...use your imagination, and mastabate this can help.. to relax"

sustasue replied: "It could be your diet. There are certain foods high in zinc that boost your sex drive. Ginseng is also helpful for the sex drive. Oysters and clams and nuts are good for it too. Do some research on the Internet for more information on foods that help the sex drive. That's the best I can tell you for now. Good luck and happy hunting. ';-)"

KJ replied: "Make an appointment with the doc that prescribed the Prozac and discuss it with him. Did you read the paperwork that came with the meds? The side effects will be listed there."

RH Arizona replied: "Heck, no, it's not normal, not at 20. Maybe at 60, but that's a long way away. Your first stop should be with the doctor that prescribed the Prozac. See if there's an alternative. Then again, if you need Prozac at 20, this issue may not be because of the Prozac, but more because of whatever reason you have to need Prozac. I'm not a doctor, and I don't play one on TV. But it seems like common sense that it would be far better to find a way to get rid of whatever the Prozac is for, so that you can also get rid of the Prozac. You won't need snow tires on your car if you don't live in a place where it snows - see what I mean? You're really young to have either of these problems, the need for Prozac, and the loss of libido. You may also want to consider getting a different doctor's opinion. Good luck!"

laura100_us replied: "Hello Prozac can and is known for killing a sex drive. Talk to your doctor."

Cy D replied: "Well, your so young this shouldn't be happening. Stress could be it among the medication your on which might be the main issue like you said. Try exercising or changing your diet. That might work but I've found natural herbs to be the best when trying to increase your sex drive. I'm on Vigrx Plus which is a natural viagra w/o the side effects. It boosts the libido like crazy. Read up about them at hughs-reviews.com where I saved money on it at the time. Good luck and I hope this helps"

Antidepressants and loss of sex drive, how long does that take? I've been on fluoxetine and I'm currently taking sertraline, trade names prozac and zoloft respectively. I was on Prozac for 6 months, it was a bad experience, but I never had a loss of libido, in fact, my libido increased about ten fold. Now, on Zoloft for about 2 months. I had lots of nasty side effects, but most have worn off, but again, my libido has increased significantly. I've found on both medications I want sex at least once a day, more is better (differs from my usual two or three times a week) and I orgasm a lot easier. Of course, I'm worried because I know loss of libido is a very common side effect and I was wondering, does that side effect usually kick in right away or come on later? I would hate to get that side effect because I know that one doesn't wear off like the others. If it's important, I'm female, in my mid-twenties and married. I know that different meds effect people differently and it's not guarenteed I will get this side effect, but since I like to be prepared, I was just wondering if I'm pretty much in the clear for that one!

Sadie replied: "for me, while taking zoloft, my libido has slowly decreased over time. i definately dont want sex once a day. but meds effect everyone differently."

Brain Babe replied: "It is important to know that sometimes medications have different effects on different people. My husband is one of those people who has the opposite expected effect on most medications. Pain meds that are supposed to make him drowsy/allow him to drift into sleep affect him like the got a shot of caffeine into an I-V and he is up all night...it could be that you are one of those people as well. I imagine that as long as your depression responds well to this medication, and you can keep up with the increased libido, you husband won't complain about the increased action in the bedroom. Heck, Honey, he might even buy you a maid because you are too pooped to keep the house clean! (If you play your cards right!)"

Lauren J replied: "I personally wouldn't worry. As has been said, everyone reacts differently on medication and you don't seem to have that problem. Usually, with most medications, you experience side effects relatively immediately as they upset your body. Longer term medications can take longer as they build up in your body, but by the time they are suppose to have full effects (approx 6-8 weeks for anti-depressants) you usually have experienced all the side effects you will have. Side effects may go down as you body adjusts more, but they may not. Consider yourself lucky since, as you said, most have the opposite effect. Actually, I lost a boyfriend due to my decrease libido (not so bad. I mean, I wanted to want sex, but you just know if a guy leaves you for that, it wasn't going to be a long-term relationship anyway). And be thankful that when it happens, you have a participant! Good luck and enjoy! Edit: By "side effects may go down with time," I mean your sex drive would return closer to your normal, not lower than it was. Three times a week still good for you?"

Does Paxil cause the severe sexual side effects that Prozac does? I asked my Dr to take me off prozac as it seemed to be causing far more negative side effects ( ie complete loss of sex drive, insomnia, anxiety extreme) So she put me on Paxil?? Correct me if I'm wrong but isnt it pretty much the same thing? Has anyone been on both and had less side effects with Paxil?

Erin W replied: "I was on Paxil and I forgot what sex was, it was horrible! Zoloft is better! Hope that helps and good luck!"

M G replied: "Paxill is the same type of thing. I had best results on Wellbutrin."

Elias H replied: "Don't take that stuff because it will put you in a emotional rollercoaster. Even if you drink go to an AA meeting, you don't have to stop drinking... Just go."

madfigs replied: "Yes, the sexual side affects can come with all of the SSRIs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selective_serotonin_reuptake_inhibitor#List_of_SSRIs). I think there are only a couple anti-depression meds that don't have sexual side affects (because they're not SSRIs). Wellbutrin is the only one I can think of."

busymom4boyz replied: "the side effect I experienced with paxil is the loss of emotion and lack of sex drive. it actually does not cause problems with anxiety that is what I was treated for was anxiety attacks. It did give me dry mouth also. I was on it for about a year....the lack of sex drive was a small price to pay for not having anxiety attacks though."

Hooter replied: "Yes any of that can.Either lower the dose or change the medicine to find one that will work for you.Remember most medicine will take a while to get into your system, for you to get adjusted to it."

Bill M replied: "Read the label or ask your pharmacist. Side effects will be different for each individual and most people won't have any."

Faith E replied: "When I was on the Paxil, the only negative side effect I experienced was when I ran out of pills. If I had to go even just one day without a dose I was a complete nauseous, dizzy, wreck. I read an article in some medicine magazine that suggested Paxil was addictive. I believe it. So, I hope this doesn't happen to you."

tara d replied: "hey email me and i might be able to help @tr_dobbs@yahoo.com"

AvatarOne replied: "They're the same. It's a device the pharms, who are controlled by globalist, use to reduce the population, and they're going at it with every and any means. If they can't reduce the world population with drugs, biological agents, epidemic viruses and controlling your mind through the media, they'll resort to starting a nuclear war with the side-effect of "collateral damage" and reduce the population by the thousands or millions at a time."

wwe wrestling is ausome! replied: "i was on prozac when i was in high school and i hated it. it caused loss of sex drive completely. And my bf is on paxil and he is having with that med as well. So ya i think they have the same side effects either way if it was male or female."

will going off of wellbutrin 300mg bring back my sex drive? i've had none for a year.? i've been on wellbutrin 300mg for almost 10 years now. the last couple of years have been the hardest. i have no sex drive. i am also switching from 80mg prozac to zoloft for anxiety. i've read that prozac causes hair loss. i have a big problem with this also.

nyskiermom replied: "It is more likely that the Prozac is responsible for your lack of sex drive. Do the switch over to zoloft and see how you feel before you drop the Wellbutrin."

Jen A replied: "Why is your sex drive low in the first place? That is what you should determine...The coming off the meds could be it. That could be it along with no time and stress. I was in your situation before and it's not too pleasant nor fun. I tried everything to regain it but after months of exercising and dieting nothing came back at all. I then tried a natural herbal enhancer thinking these herbs can re-boost my sex drive. I took them and let me tell you the truth. These things work so great and are my new best friends. OMG they really take the libido up and make you so horny when you need to be. Along with that the orgasms are 20x's better and come in multiple now. The stuff is called Hersolution and you can read up about it at herenhancement.com where I saved $30 on it at the time. You will love this stuff. Well good luck and I hope this helps."
